David Strand Designs Vintage Collection: “Blue Spruce”, #DSD0804601. Mouth-blown and hand-decorated exclusively for David Strand Designs in Germany in 2009. Is an elegant vintage drop ornament comprised of a central ball with two gorgeous, multi-faceted reflectors with two disk shapes and a small accent ball at the bottom. The decoration was inspired by a favorite evergreen, the blue spruce, known for its sharp needles, distinctive color and refreshing fragrance. It is native to North America, and among Native Americans has long been used for medicinal purposes and as a gift of good fortune. The design on the central ball of this ornament features stylized blue spruce. Boughs, holly leaves and red ribbons and bows set against a background of rich glossy deep blue lacquer. The main ball contains deep and detailed reflectors on front and rear sides that were painted using rich gold and red lacquers. The same color scheme was repeated on the two disks and the small ball at the bottom of the ornament. Fine red glitter was applied to the edges of the reflectors and disk forms. Gold glitter was used to highlight and divide the various elements of the ornament. Blue Spruce features a distinctive design celebrating the season set against a complex vintage form.
