4 Vintage Snowman Blue Mercury Glass Christmas Ornament. Teardrop Shape – Diorama, Indent. Rare & Hard to Find Ornaments. Snowmen in Top Hat, Felt Scarf w/Red Nose & Rosy Cheeks. Made in Japan 1950’s – Approx 75 Years Old. Approx 6″ Long x 1-1/4″ Wide (at widest point). For sale is a set of 4 Vintage 1950’s Blue Mercury Teardrop Glass Christmas Ornaments, all with a Snowman inset into the front of the ornament. The snowmen are absolutely adorable with their black top hats, white felt scarves, red noses and rosy cheeks, surrounded by mica glitter accent. The blue color is slightly different across the 4 ornaments, probably because of age. There are signs of age wear and one has some areas of paint loss; and there are a few age spots on the felt. One has a chip under the hanger (see photo #17). The blue snowmen in my opinion are the hardest to find in the series of 4 figurals, and these are from my personal collection. The ornaments were made in Japan in the 1950’s, and are unmarked. They measure approx 6″ long, but there is some slight difference in length across the 4; width is approx 1-1/4″. Pink ball with Angel playing trumpet, gold bristle brush tree and mica crystal snow flakes. Green ball with singing chior Angel, red bristle brush tree and mica crystal snow flakes. Blue ball with Santa Claus, white bristle brush tree and mica crystal snow flakes. These mid-century modern ornaments were made in Japan and acquired in 1960 when I lived in Tokyo.
