This turn of the last century Victorian Christmas ornament is a hot air balloon complete with hanging gondola basket. The balloon is a 2-1/4 diameter silvered red ball, wrapped in crinkly gold bullion wire and gold feather tinsel. At the joints of each vertical tinsel rope are three different little Dresden paper scrap greetings with hearts and flowers. The banners on the scraps read: A Happy New Year To You, Affection, and Confidence. Attached to the feather tinsel ropes is a cardboard gondola wrapped in red foil and decorated with more feather tinsel and three red glass beads. Overall length of the ornament is about 5 inches. There is normal flattening of the tinsel strands, a couple of loose or broken wires, and scratching to the red glass ornament from contact with the wires. No chips or breaks. The ornament hangs just fine and displays beautifully. See my other listings for hundreds of antique and vintage Christmas items. I collect plain glass balls throughout the year. Most are used (some may have signs of wear). Some I have sponge painted and added glitter, while others I painted completely with one color. The rest are the color I bought them at. The painted ones all have a final coating of decoupauge. All have been decorated by myself. Colors are pinks, burgandys, creams and whites. Most balls are 2 1/2 in diameter. All the items I decorated them with are from my mother’s craft room. You will see 2 – 3 a like, while others are totally different in their own special way! (In this lot – the top right 3 in the 2nd photo, maybe a light peach in color). The 2 on the bottom right are 3 1/2 in diameter. Here you can see all my ornaments I have to offer.
